Traditionally our core value for September is “Be Scrappy,” but this month we included our ability to “Give,” and do it in a big way. We teamed up with New Hampshire Food Bank in a couple of company and community efforts to help conquer hunger in New Hampshire.
Did you know that 1 in 10 individuals – 139,730 people – are food insecure throughout the state, including 41,350 children? We encourage you to take some time and think about how you can help those in need.
Our first initiative was run by our parent company CIT Bank, called Foodortunity. This was a contest that relied on votes to determine who would win the top three cash donation prizes. With the immense help of the community who voted every day, N.H. Food Bank won the first place prize of $10,000. We can’t thank everyone enough who took the time to vote!
We didn’t want to end it there, and really rode the momentum to our annual Mac N’ Cheese Mania contest within Direct Capital. Last week, all employees participated in an internal contest to see who could package the most macaroni and cheese meals. While we are always excited about the friendly competition, it’s even better knowing it’s for a great cause. We were able to package and provide 17,498 meals to those in need!
