Our good friends over at FranchWire recently wrote about the many benefits a digital menu board can have for quick service and fast casual franchises. We definitely think this is something worth repeating.
It’s no secret that technology is changing the way small businesses and franchises are doing business on a daily basis, and digital menu boards are a huge part of that. Unlike with a static menu, restaurant operators utilizing a digital board can easily start and stop promotions based on time of day or season and change menu placement in a snap.
Even better? A digital menu board upgrade can directly generate new revenue. Representatives for International Dairy Queen told Restaurant News last year that more than 80 percent of the time, the quantity of an item sold in one of the 12 restaurants where the system was being tested increased on a year over year basis when it was featured on digital signage. That’s not even mentioning, the ability to incorporate dynamic upsell messaging that could suggest that a customer add chips and a drink to a specific menu item and you’ve got something that could potentially be a huge financial boost.
For growing franchises, the ability to maintain consistent branding across all locations from outside of the specific franchise location will prove to be an added benefit. The franchisor will have the ability to upload standard messaging and pricing directly from the franchise headquarters.
The downside is that a brand new digital menu board and the software it requires are unlikely to come cheap. Though it will likely pay for itself, and then some, before much time has passed, it may be worth it for any business owner interested in a digital menu board to consider equipment financing to help ease that cash burden.
