At least once a week, we’ll deliver a roundup of small business news from around the nation.

Successful Business Blogging

Everything sounds more compelling with a British accent, so this Social Media Examiner video of Chris Garrett telling you about business blogging is worth a look. His advice is also succinct and intelligent.

No matter what kind of business you have, Garrett’s advice to be passionate, grow a thick skin and target your customers is sound. Give the video a watch to take away some terrific common-sense tips.

Apple Offering Small Biz Tech Support

Technology giant Apple is offering a $499 annual service contract to offer tech support and repairs for its hardware. If you’re a company that relies on your iPads, iPhones and Macs, this is probably a deal worth exploring.

It’s an extension of customer-friendly teams being established at 300 Apple locations nationwide, a sort of non-PC equivalent of Best Buy’s Geek Squad.

Colorado Brings Home Two Small Biz Awards

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce recently announced that 75 businesses nationwide were winners of the 2011 Blue Ribbon Small Business Awards. Two of those—Echo Concepts and Namaste Solar Electric Co.—are from Colorado, which has now shown up in our last two Small Business Today editions.

Congratulations to all the winners.

Labor Market Floundering

Unfortunately, the labor market is still “soft,” according to Intuit economist Susan Woodward. While new small businesses appear to be experiencing growth, they’re relatively lonely, with hours worked per employee up nationwide and the number of actual employees down.

On the plus side, when the economy finally rebounds in the way we all hope it will, there will be a large pool of qualified candidates to pick through. We’ve got to find silver linings where we can.
