What Muhammad Ali Taught Us About Business

Reading Time: 2 minutes

As you may know, we lost a legend and icon this month. The man whose determination and success will be remembered for years to come: Muhammad Ali. The boxer of all boxers will be immortal since memories and stories of him will pass on from generation to generation.

One of the many things that will be remembered about Ali are the inspirational quotes that he spoke throughout the time of his life. In his memory, we’ve taken three of his most famous quotes to show you how they can be related to your business.

  • “Don’t count the days; make the days count.” No matter what industry you’re in, or what department brings in the highest percentage of your profits, these words can resonate across your business. Take a sales department as an example. Every month a goal is set, and in order to succeed, that goal must be hit. Rather than worrying about the number looming over your head, focus on how you’re going to perform that day. Say there are 20 business days in the month and your goal is 40 transactions, rather than thinking of hitting 40, think of getting 2 a day. This makes you give every day your all instead of being intimidated by the goal.
  • “It isn’t the mountains ahead to climb that wear you out; it’s the pebble in your shoe.” If you think about it, this quote not only can relate to your business, but also to your personal life. If you have a goal or mission that you want to accomplish, just remember that it’s you who is going after the goal, not anyone else. If you have an outside voice nagging, complaining, or telling you that it can’t be done, just remember that you are the one trying, not them. Get that pebble out your shoe, tighten those laces, and make the climb.
  • “He who is not courageous enough to take risks will accomplish nothing in life.” If you are living inside of your comfort zone, you aren’t living at all. If you coast along during the day, what’s the point of even doing work? Think of your product offerings and what you can do differently to increase volume. Or, even switch your industry as a whole if you find a niche. Life’s too short to not take risks.

In honor of him, and applying these quotes to your business, you too can “float like a butterfly and sting like a bee”.
