Every year around this time, we like to remind everyone that Tax Day is just around the corner. Three days away, as a matter of fact.
As a small business owner and as a U.S. resident, this is a stressful time of year. Even if you have a nice tax return coming back to you, it’s true that filling out those forms and making sure everything is correct is a major hassle. Thankfully, it’s also almost over.
What should you be sure not to forget?
- Double check everything. The last thing you want is the IRS’s beady eye upon you in the form of an audit, so check carefully for errors on every form you submit.
- Apply for a Section 179 deduction if you’ve purchased or leased equipment in the last year. Anything you can do to get a little break on your taxes is worth pursuing.
- Ensure you’ve filed for every possible deduction. Your office space, any home office space, contractors….you don’t want to miss a deduction, and you don’t want to miss any important forms.
- Don’t miss the deadline. It’s Monday! One last time.
So that’s our friendly reminder about Tax Day. We hope it passes pleasantly enough, and that you’re able to get the deductions and the refund you deserve.
