I am terrible at picking the results for the NCCA Men’s Basketball tournament. Terrible.
The only time I’ve managed not to lose money or dignity on a bracket was in 2002, when I picked the Maryland Terrapins to win it all. Every year before and since, it’s been a crushing parade of prognostication failures. I’ve picked #1 seeds and gone down in flames, and I’ve taken a chance on lower seeds and watched them crash so spectacularly the Hindenburg was envious.
Needless to say, you don’t want to follow my recommendations. But you certainly can make fun of them.
In that spirit, I’m posting my Final Four for your very public ridicule, with North Carolina, Notre Dame, Duke and Wofford. Take it all in. Be awed by the sheer cowardice of picking one #1 seed and two #2 seeds for three of my spots. Read that paragraph again and try to figure out who the hell Wofford is. I’m setting myself up for at least one spectacular disappointment.
Feel free to tell me how wrong I am, and weigh in with your own picks for the tourney in the comments. I’ll be keeping a running tally of how my picks fare in the weeks ahead, so stay tuned for that.
