What do Mary Kay, county fairs and Australian cat shows have in common?
Ribbons from The Ribbon Place, as it turns out.
The New Mexico-based small business was founded in 1979 with one simple mission: To provide high-quality ribbons for competitions and moments of pride worldwide. The company’s 12 employees lead the charge.
As the company’s website notes, their ribbons “have been used around the world, to recognize award winning cats in Russia, inspired missionaries in Zaire, and cosmetic directors in Germany.”
Owner Susan Ross said the business has battled through the down economy—“it’s a real niche business”—but global demand has kept sales strong. Recognizing the demand, the company reached out to Direct Capital to obtain financing for hot stamping machines, which are needed to allow the company to make award ribbons.
She said the experience was a positive one for her company, which was able to get the equipment financing it needed in short order.
“Your people are very responsive. Every time I had questions, they got right back to me,” she said.
Now, Ross will put her equipment financing from Direct Capital toward new equipment to use meeting that global demand.
“We get calls from all over the world,” she said. “It’s amazing.”
